Notes

Sharing this pattern I made for leftover super bulky yarn. Sharing is good karma.

This shrug is knit in the round from neck down, then sleeves are continued in the round.

Could be knit with all scrap yarn, but I added some fabric strips as scrap yarn. In either case, looks cute if you make cute bows of the yarn joins instead of hiding the yarn joins.

I’m 5’2” tall, 38” bustline, wear medium size 10/12. One size fits most.

Fabric yarn: 59” wide, 96” long.
2” strips w 9” for ties:
96”/2”= 52.5 strips, or 48 strips
48x(59-9)“ = 2400” ‘yarn’
2400” = 67.67 yds
Tied strips together in simple knot with ends about 2” unto decorative bows. Alternatively, could sew strip ends together with thread. I sewed together when ends were in armpit.

NECK/SHOULDERS
CO in round 30 sts.
Round 1&2; K in fabric while placing 4 markers at sleeves sleeves (5 sts) and front/back (10 sts).
Round 3: switched to yarn, Inc 1 st on each side of 4 markers (8 sts total) at sleeve/body intersections.
Round 4: knit all.
Round 5&6: switch to fabric and repeat rounds 3&4.
Rounds 6&7: repeat rounds 3&4 while simultaneously 1’x rib stitch on front and back stitches.
Round 8: BO front and back stitches in 1x1 rib while simultaneously continuing Rounds 3&4 increases.

SLEEVES
Put one sleeve on temporary holder (13 stitches). Continue switching out fabric and yarns as desired.
Row 1: knit row while Inc 1 on each end of row.
Row 2: purl.
Rows 3&4: repeat rows 1&2 (17 stitches).
Round 1: PM, join and K all sleeve stitches.
Rounds 2 - 4: K all sts.
Remaining rounds: try on shrug, start making decreases at marker to fit arm as needed. Sleeve length as desired.
Last 2 rounds in 1x1 rib, BO in 1x1 rib.

FINISHING
Pull all bow ties to front of shrug.
