10/10/10: (weird, I just noticed the interesting date) I spoke too soon last week, apparently. The neck band was completed with no problems, but there is a part on the left armhole that is starting to separate from the sweater--coming unraveled :( It looks like the machine sewing was too far from the steek and then yarn is slipping out of it. Ugh. I’m thinking I need to stop and fix this one inch section before it gets beyond repair. I’m thinking felting or … we’ll see. I’m not finding too many suggestions for what to do when this happens, so I may have to wing it.
10/3/10: I decided to let this sit in time out until fall, so I’m just now picking it back up. I machine-sewed the edges of the steeks to re-inforce them, and I used a size 0 needle to pick up stitches around the neck. Nothing came unraveled this time (yay!) and I can’t really see where it started to come unraveled the first time since I’ve started the ribbing. Hopefully, I’ll finish this before the end of the month.
5/31/10: I finally finished all the fair-isle and then did the crocheted steeks…and then, horror of horrors…I cut my steeks and started to pick up stitches for the ribbing. It started coming unraveled almost immediately, so I put it in timeout, consulted with my MIL on what to do, and I am still working up the courage to try to fix it.
I got this kit for my birthday, and I finally got the needles I needed to do it last weekend. I feel like this project is a bit ambitious for me, but I’m hopeful I can finish it by the fall.
I’m not doing a gauge swatch, but the 38” would be a little roomier than I need anyway, so I’m hoping that my normally snug gauge will give me the size I want.
