I have a bankers box full of Cascade Pastaza, a lovely yarn by Cascade that was discontinued years ago. It’s 50% llama, 50% wool single ply and I have six colors, inventory below. I had started making star motifs of this (which I am slowly frogging) so I have a bunch of tiny balls too and may use for second felted project later.
There’s a photo of each color (you have to look at it full screen to see all colors), from left to right:
- 1002 (peach) 8 skeins
- 061 (orange red) 4 skeins
- 274 (medium pink) 2 skeins
- 076 (orange) 3 skeins
- 019 (red) 3 skeins
- 9869 (cherry red) 1 skein

I decided to start over. At this point, I had completed 17 rows with a J (6.0 mm) hook. I love the look but it’s too heavy and, at over 60 inches wide, it would just be too unwieldy when complete.
So now I am using 7.0 mm hook, 121 stitches (multiple of 7 plus 2) so it will have more drape plus only about 48 inches wide. And since my inventory has shown that there’s more of color 1002 (light peach) than any other, I’ll use that as start and end rows - and will adjust sequence slightly.
The picture just above the yarn skeins is the project with 7.0 hook, I am really liking the look!

I marked this as 90% today - I’ve finished the Apache Tears part and am now adding a border. The main reason I decided to do this instead of continuing the Apache Tears is that I got tired of weaving in ends! At one point, I had thought of fringe (nope, didn’t like that) or Tinna’s double border (nope, too heavy) so I was weaving in end EACH. AND. EVERY. ROW. Yuck!
The border is moss stitch (sc, ch-1 in row 1, ch-1, sc in row 2).

I finished this one on Saturday, took the final pictures today. It’s a good sized blanket, measures approximately 4.5 feet wide (1.37 meters) by 6 feet long (1.83 meters). Nice and toasty warm for this winter.
