Several months ago, my friend Joy made a lovely scarf from the Bristleberry Scarf pattern - so ever since then I’ve had in the back of my mind to make it. I’ve been drooling over the Tencel 5/2 yarn for the last few weeks so the two seemed a perfect marriage.

I had a few challenges getting started - first was figuring out the multiple for the pattern so I could make the scarf width I wanted it (answer: multiple of 8 + 1 plus 1 additional ch for the foundation).

Next, I made about 8 rows with E4 hook since the yarn is so fine but then realized the resulting fabric would be too solid for my tastes so made smaller sample in both F5 (still too solid) and G6 (the winner). In the pics, the orange marker is with F5 and green marker is with G6.

I hope that one skein is enough - this is hand-dyed yarn and there was only one skein of this color so if I need more it will be interesting.

Today I decided that one skein would not be enough because I really want this to be a stole rather than a scarf (hence the project name change). So I picked out a color to go with first skein (there wasn’t another skein of 1st color in shop). I found another green that works well with it. Next decision - do I work in stripes. Tried that, did not like effect at all, detracted from stitch pattern. So plan now is to make half stole in Color A, then second half in Color B. I think itu will work. Stole is at least 18” wide, will measure after I get athe least 6 rows complete.

I am decluttering & realized this is a project I will never finish.
