I thought this pattern was really cute when I first saw and had forgotten about it until a friend told me it was on sale on the Interweave site. But then I realized I had purchased a copy of the magazine it’s in so I decided to start working on it. I had to go to three stores to find all the colors - and the lighter shade of pink isn’t exactly the same color used in the sample but I think it will work.
I haven’t worked with #10 thread in ages - didn’t like the finished look with the B1 hook so am trying a smaller one. I can see I will need to make yarn bobbins as suggested in the instructions or else risk cutting yarn more often than I need to and having too many ends to weave in.
I work my C2C projects from the lower-left corner to upper-right corner because it seems more natural to me to read the chart from left to right than vice versa. The reality is that if you are using a chart, you can start the project from any darn corner you like - the row numbers, of course, will be different but if you are comfortable just visually consulting the chart, the “start at the lower-right corner” rule is NOT a hard and fast rule.

I’m doing pre-work for the project:
- Made a virtual graph paper copy of eag chart, with rows numbered the way I work them
- Worked a 4-row sample (10 C2C squares) so I can calculate amount of thread for the bobbins. 10 squares = 6.5 feet (90 inches) so each square takes about 9 inches plus I will need to add enough for a good-sized tail for each bobbin.
I’m only pre-making bobbins with the darker background color - will make the off-white and the lighter color bobbins as I come to them in the project. I need bobbins for the background color so that when I reach a large section of background, I don’t have to make unnecessary cuts to the thread.
Off to make a spreadsheet to help with bobbins (# blocks * 9 inches plus 10 inches for tails)

In keeping with my strategy of 4 or less WIPs, I’m hibernating this project. I’m close to halfway on the pink placemat but no time for this project right now.

I had only a little bit done on this in over two years & since I’m no longer interested in the project (way too many ends to weave on), I fogged what I had done & am giving the yarn away.
I still think the pattern is really cute, just not one I want to do anymore.
