I have lots of Cascade Ultra Pima left over from table runner project, should be enough to make a small blanket. I’m using the stitch pattern from Moogly’s Harvest Bandana Cowl, a modified C2C that is quite lovely.
I’ve just made a test swatch so I can calculate the size of my blanket. Here’s information about my swatch:
- 4.25 in × 4.25 in = 18.0625 sq inches
- .30 ounces
Now to weigh yarn (I’ve discarded labels so IDK yarn color numbers or names)
- Dark red 5.35 oz
- White 3.15 oz
- Medium purple 2.85 oz
- Black 3.20 oz
- Orange 2.30 oz
- Dark purple 3.25 oz
- Yellow 1.05 oz
- Bright green .70 oz
- Light blue 1.75 oz
- Teal 2.70 oz
- Peach 2.35 oz
- Sage 1.80 oz
Total: 30.45 oz
So my blanket can be approximately 1833 sq inches
(18.0625 / .30) × 30.45 = 1833.34375
The square root of 1833 is 42.81
I don’t want a square blanket so I’ll play around with other dimensions.
36 in × 48 in = 1728 sq in
That sounds good, should leave me with yarn for border
Color order:
- Bright green
- Light blue
- Orange
- Medium purple
- Black
- Dark red
- White
- Dark purple
- Teal
- Peach
- Sage
- Yellow

I’m making fast progress on this and working up slightly larger than I expected. I stopped increasing width-wise after black yarn, approximately 37 or 38 inches.
I just finished one skein of dark red (have another partial skein that I’ll hokd till end) and blanket weighs 14.90 ounces. Not counting the partial skein of dark red, I have 14.45 ounces of yarn remaining. So I will continue increasing length-wise for a while longer, white yarn up next.

Finished today! I did end up buying one more skein for the border, color #3756, which is aptly named Slate Grey.
I am pleased with result - and it was quite fun to make.
