Notes

30 Dec 2023: CO 42 with US 6s. Forgot to change to 8s so worked entire slipper on 6s.

7 sets of fan pattern, 84 st for foot. 8 garter ridges before sole decreases. Added a carry-along to add thickness to sole.

3-needle bind off on the inside looks odd from outside, and can be felt when slipper worn. Will try it with 3-needle bind off on outside, but suspect grafting will be better.

I wear a US 6.5 or 7 shoe, and slipper fits over heavy socks but is too loose on bare feet. This is a surprise, because they looked so small while working the foot! I honestly thought they would be child or youth-sized.

31 Dec 2023: Redid the foot seam by grafting, testing it on the outside and inside of the slipper. There was no difference in the appearance of the seam so I left it on the outside of the sole. Then I used a laddering type of stitch with the MC down the length of the grafted seam on the inside so there wasn’t such a pronounced groove on the inside slipper sole. The grafted seam fits better than the 3-needle bind off because the slipper is not as loose.

Also noted when weaving in ends that the scrap of gold yarn I used at the top of the 1st slipper is a different color than the rest!

3 Jan 2024: Realized after grafting the sole of the 2nd slipper that I had not done the heel decs. Unzipped the sole and reknit it. Sole 9.5” finished size.

Verdict: lovely slippers that will work better as bed socks than walking around the house. They are too big for the recipient, so they are headed to charity.

Notes for the next pair:

  1. For grafted seam, work 1/2 row more to allow the grafting to fit the garter stitch sequence better.
  2. Try the knit flat version because garter and mosaic in the round are tedious. Knit the pattern as written the first time!
  3. The carry along in the sole is a good idea but if using one, make a few decs on the toe as well as the heel to account for the increase in gauge with the carry along yarn.
