Notes

I was inspired to do this by the challenge in the Novelty and Art Yarn Spinners group.
I found a bag full of junk fibers in the bottom of my stash. It had bits of roving, some dyed partially felted locks, tiny leftovers of handspun yarns, pieces of novelty yarns, waste from my drumcarder, nothing really soft, nothing I really wanted to use in any type of garment, or anywhere else. So I got out my jumbo plying head and spun all of this into corespun yarn using some commercial yarns and novelty yarns as my core just tying them together. I spun a bobbin full, never took this yarn off the bobbin, never washed and set this yarn (that’s why I don’t have it uploaded into stash). At that point I already new I was going to weave in directly on a stretcher frame from a wasted canvas (I tore the canvas off and was left with rough wooden frame it was stapled to). I did not have any concept, like a landscape or pattern or anything in mind, I was just spinning whatever my hand grabbed from the bowl. Next day I grabbed my frame and a staple gun and made a warp stapling the yarn at each turn and then started weaving. I went from simple and straight weaving into making shapes and movement and texture and it was such a rewarding experience - to weave from the heart. I started with a shuttle, but then figured, I enjoyed more just weaving with my hands. In no time, well several hours really, but I did not notice that, I got it all finished and I used all the yarn on it. I did have several ideas of the concept while I was weaving but with the new section of color in my yarn that really did not work as I wanted, it evolved on it’s own and really really came alive in my mind. Weird.
I do have to finish the frame lightly, so I am not considering the project finished. I did not do this before weaving because I wanted the frame and the weaving within it to be parts of the whole and complete one another. I am planning on light mixed media finish with a lot of wood still showing through.
