Using Caron Cakes for a bias type blanket like this makes a really cool pattern in that the color blocks are larger on the starting and ending corners and smaller as they work toward the middle as the blanket widens. This gives a really nice effect as if you went out of your way to plan it, but it just happens naturally with the pattern and the yarn.
When I went shopping for yarn, I had already seen several pictures of projects made with red velvet and they all seemed sort of brownish to me. The colorway is not brownish at all. It flows from a pale speckled pink to a true charcoal color gray. The two colors of red are more along the lines of a cranberry type color and a maroon. This should go quite nicely with the light and dark gray with small red accents that makes the color scheme of my son’s bedroom.

6/29/17: I’m on my last two skeins of yarn. Finally stretched it out to check out how it will look when completed. I have to say, I’m very pleased with the results. As far as the yarn is concerned, it’s a lovely soft and lofty feel. This is a great project for a new knitter. This would even be a great project for a person learning knit. Because the yarn is self striping, there is no need to worry about figuring out the colors. You still get a beautiful end result. It’s summer so I haven’t been working on this diligently because it’s too warm to have it on my lap, but it’s perfect for the cool breezy evenings on the deck.
