She inexplicably fell in love with a skein of green Red Heart super saver and this hat pattern. The whims of a 5yr old who picks out her own stuff.
Going to make matching mittens.
I love, love this pattern. It’s the 2nd time I’ve knit it. It’s very easy and I love how it’s only 2 pages. One main chart and one small chart and DONE.
I did only 32 rows of ribbing on this one, instead of the 45 it calls for, because the yarn added the length. The ribbing is about 5” long with just the 32 rows.
No other mods. I seriously recommend it. Big wow factor with the cables for no more trouble than it is, though I will warn you that Red Heart super saver and pointy needles make bobbles a pain in the finger tips!!
Note the size difference between mine (red), which used a slightly softer/thinner yarn (KnitPick’s Brava) and after the ribbing I went up a size to 4.5mm to work the charts.
For Hannah’s green one, I used the 4mm needles throughout the whole hat and used the heavier, slightly more stiff yarn which gave it a more dense fabric. It worked PERFECTLY for her, without me having to actually resize the pattern.
