If you would like an Excel file (or PDF) of your chosen size with each row and number of stitches for each color, I will send to you. Just PM me, I’ll ask for “proof” that you own the pattern and an email address.
This is a great and EASY sweater, just kinda poorly written. I wonder if a page limit and/or language translation were culprits. There is literally only 1 stitch in the entire sweater and only shaping on the top edge, which you can’t lose, because the “top” is a different color. The color work is also easy, just a “normal” color change to me (again, worded weirdly in pattern). A stubborn beginner could easily make this.
I’ll definitely make another one, after I do some thinking about the huge number of tails, and how to reduce those. If I figure that out, I’ll update notes here (and any Excel Files I send)
A (pink of pattern): Gentle Monster (white)
B (brown of pattern): Swarm (brown/green)
C (purple of pattern): Rumpelstiltskin (orange)
The colors and their names, plus the timing makes Halloween seem an appropriate name for this sweater. And since it’s my first adult sweater, a little scary.
10/14/24: Finished Front!
Pattern doesn’t specify when you no longer have stitches to work in color B, what to do with it. I didn’t cut the yarn, so it was in the correct place when I later worked the trim along the shoulders, neckline, and Row1. When working into Row1, I couldn’t get “between each stitch” to look good, so I worked into the starting chain. Chain1 at each “corner”, which isn’t mentioned in pattern.
10/25/24: Finished Back
I started a fresh skein of Color A with the back, but didn’t for either other color. Once again worked chain 1 at each “corner” of trim. Didn’t cut Color A at the end of final row, because it was where I needed it for the trim anyway.
10/27/24: Finished Shoulder Seams & Neckband
Frogged and reworked the neckband after taking photos and being unhappy with them. Disappointed with finishing instructions: no counts given for seams or cuffs/neckband/hem and very minimal instructions. Yes, at this point the maker’s opinion matters, but I like the pictured sweater (or I wouldn’t be making it), I want to as least be given the information on what that sweater used. I did zip stitch for the shoulder seam (60 on right, only 56 on left (I see that I went a little too far on the right side, into the decreases now that I’m looking for it) and 150 TIGHT (I think only this yarn required specific tight work, when working cuff/hem in Color A, my default tension was fine) HDC on neckband (decreased 12 total stitches, 3 on either side of seam). Number of rows/rounds wasn’t clear to me in pattern, so I’ll clarify here: in pictures there are 9 total YO ribs including the YOs of the working round for both the cuffs and neckband. When I work HDC 3rd loop in a spiral I work SS into the third loop for the entire final round (which I did here, and is another thing missing from instructions which just say “FO” and in a spiral not to mention on the front based on where start is would be VERY obvious)
10/30/24: Finished Right Sleeve
Didn’t measure it as I worked, but calculated the number of rows I’d need based on gauge (67 last full length row) and was spot on width at the halfway point, only a little over at the end. Connected again with zip stitch instead of SC and did NOT finish off at the end, but continued directly to working cuff instructions (which is why I don’t exactly know how much yarn each took).
10/31/24: Finished Right Cuff and Side Seam
Worked directly from the sleeve (instead of in the order given in the pattern) 50HDC, worked until there were 7 rib rings (not including the future ribs of row in process) then switched to SS in 3rd loop. For my next sleeve I’ll leave a long tail on the starting chain to use for sleeve attachment & side seam. Worked zip stitch at bottom (where tail is) of sleeve and 56 stitches from top of front. All done with Color B. Didn’t get much further: handed out candy to a record breaking 978 trick or treaters!
11/02/24: Finished Left Sleeve and Side Seam
Left a tail of Color C 5x longer than side+around sleeve before starting chain (worked PERFECTLY, but was scary because exactly the correct amount of tail was leftover). Got all the same edging counts as Right Sleeve without any extra effort. All done with Color C. The few stitches of Side Seam in Color A are included in the Hem use. I didn’t want to cut yarn after only a few stitches when I knew I’d be right back there working the hem later, but also didn’t want a 2nd ball attached to the full sweater while I worked Cuff
11/02/24: Finished Left Cuff
I did have to cut Color A after working Sleeve, before working edge, but I didn’t need to cut after that. Unfortunately I did, so 2 extra tails for me, but basically the same as pattern would instructed me: FO sleeve, then restart Cuff several pages later.
11/02/24: Finished Hem
Though it’s listed as the “looser” option. I believe from the instructions it is actually tighter. I chose this method for consistency. It is the same gather pattern as the cuffs.
