Notes

Using a deep stash skein! Wow, how long have I had this yarn? At least 10 years— crazy. This hat took me about a month but with lots of pauses.

Note on Jared’s provisional cast on directions: he says to cast on 73 sts in your favorite method before starting the provisional steps, but I discovered that using the long tail cast on resulted in a VERY tight foundational row and I struggled to get the stitches even once I had my 144 and was working the ribbing moving comfortably around a 16” circular. Once I picked out the waste yarn, the tubular rows moved beautifully and easily… so maybe do to do the long tail cast on, or if you do, do it incredibly loosely!

Oops, I did the whole thing cabling 1 row too soon. Ah well! At least it’s consistent. I’d definitely make this again. Was just slightly too short before blocking; after blocking was just fine. Did 5” of main hat section before decreases.

I just barely ran out of yarn before the end, so I striped in a bit of leftovers from Jassim’s 2nd hat. I like that this sort of ties their hats together, and with that, wraps up a relationship with the son. Sweet that both Dad & son will have hats knitted by me!
