Body portion completed. It’s about eight inches across at the armpits, but will very easily stretch to nine or ten inches given the loose gauge and the design.
But my goodness, this colour-change wool is an eyesore!
Found a vintage button (price 1½p or 4d each) for the front. I oversewed round the buttonhole, as the stitches were so loose it was hard to tell which hole to use!
I made a point of starting the first sleeve several stitches up the back, instead of with picking up at the armhole, and of working three rounds of ribbing (to match the neck and hem edging) before casting off instead of only one. But the section under the armhole was still so loose it had to be darned.

You really do need markers for this one - and/or to count like crazy. Restarted three times.
The temptation is to forget the second increase of the pair.

I can get 5sts/in using large needles on this lightweight wool, which should be all right given that I want the shrug to come out a little smaller than the original pattern…
