I ended up with a 17-point star, which again was slightly frilly - I could almost certainly have got away with only 16 points. I’m puzzled that this actually used less yarn than my 23-stitch flannel, and can only assume the red yarn must have been a thicker weight!
The centre seemed very large but pulled together nicely when I threaded the needle through all the alternate purl bumps. Finished item is 10” diameter.

15 points done. Still plenty of cotton yarn left this time. :-)

Trying the 25-stitch cast-on again.
Got as far as six points before realising I had forgotten to increase at the start of the row several points earlier and was therefore a stitch short! Now back to five points.

Remember:

KFB, K6, YO, K15 to set up the pattern for the next point (leaving 3sts unworked at end of row)
K8, YO thereafter, leaving 6 (9, 12, 15, 18, 21) when turning.
There should be seven ‘holes’ in each completed point.

Knit back 12 sts on last short row at end of point. Then cast off 8 and knit right across: 25 sts.
Slip 1 on inside edge of flannel and K24.
