Notes

August 24, 2022

Aiming for short sleeves, but full length. I have three more skeins of CashSilk Sock in San Diego on order from Expression Fiber Arts. The skein I’m starting with is old, so I’ll probably fade in one of the new ones and use this for the neckline, sleeves, and bottom hem. I’ll alternate the three new skeins to maintain color uniformity.
I am using the Cable Cast On as called for… have just learnt that off YouTube. Super excited to get started here!

August 27, 2022

Switched to the larger needles and have completed the two rows of swag stitch. I love how the colorway is working up.

August 31, 2022

Have completed the first section of holes for the shell stitches. The rest of the yarn came in this morning. Anticipate working my first row of shell/fan stitches tonight. Using hand-dyed yarn, so will be alternating rows a few times to switch to a new skein… May alternate skeins every row; need to review the directions on how to do that.

September 2, 2022

I’ve worked my way through the shell sections; I’ve moved it to the 40” needles. Increases and swag section next.

September 3, 2022

Have completed the second swag stitch section and am moving on to the pre-arm-split increases. Have been alternating skeins every row since between the first swag section and the fan section.

September 4, 2022

I have completed all the increases before the split; next is to work even until I have enough armhole space to do the split itself.
All the stitch counts have come out perfectly so far. Am still alternating skeins 2 and 3 every row. I am going to have to try it on soon, just to see how it’s going and how much more armhole depth I need.

September 10, 2022

Continued working this over my trip to Dallas for my kiddo’s birthday. I really need to finish the arms so I know how long I can make the body… should probably pick those up today and see how much I can get done.

September 11, 2022

First sleeve is complete; I used the cable bind off making sure to keep it a little loose so it’ll be more stretchy. Have tested it and it fits my arm.

September 13, 2022

Second sleeve is finished and bound off…
Yarn ball weights at 21 rows into the body (after the sleeve separation):
1 = 49 g
2 = 58 g
3 = 61 g
4 = 80 g
I’m still alternating every row; currently switching between balls 2 and 4.

September 15, 2022

After 8 body rows (approximately 1”) ball 2 is at 54 g and ball 4 is at 75 g. This means that I’m using 9-10 grams of yarn per inch of fabric created, and also that I will likely have nearly a whole skein’s worth left over even if I make it full length.

October 2, 2022

Have finished and bound off loosely in pattern instead of using the cable bind-off because I think I want to adjust the length a little. Wanted to try it on without the needles (and ran out of time on the test).
Have requested Subtle Stripes as my payment pattern.

December 19, 2022

Lengthened to prescribed length and doubled the height of the ribbing at the bottom. Cable bind-off used.
Very pleased with the results.
