Notes

Used the backward loop cast on because I couldn’t get the recommended cast on to work properly. I used the 16” circular since the 32” one seemed much too long for the number of stitches.
Initial cast on seemed sloppy, but I’m a few rows into the 1/1 ribbing and it’s starting to look nice.

October 26, 2018

I’ve completed one inch of the neck ribbing.
Later: I completed the last half inch of neckline ribbing, the initial increase, and the set up rows for the ongoing increases.

October 29, 2018

Ok, I’m 20 rows into the 32 row yoke increase section… I think I’m going to need to switch to my 40” circulars. My stitches are starting to feel crowded.

November 9, 2018

I have set aside the sleeve stitches on extra yarn and I’m now knitting the torso in the round with no increases. It finally looks like a sweater!!!

November 17, 2018

I’ve got about 2.5 inches below the armholes done… so about 12 inches of body left to go. I’m near the end of my second skein.

December 5, 2018

I’m almost the end of my third skein and I’ve got about 9 inches of body below the armhole. I’m going to add in the sleeves tonight. My sixth skein is slightly off color, so I’m going to catch the sleeves up to the body and keep working all three ends so that I finish the same colored skeins equidistant from the hems.

I think.

December 6, 2018

I’ve picked up the stitches that were put on hold and done 10 rows on each sleeve. 10 rows gives me a generous 1.5 inches of fabric, unblocked. Total length of sleeve is supposed to be 20 inches, so I figure about 130 rows. 120 now.
I figure I’ve got about 45 more rows to complete the body. I need 7 inches more…

December 7, 2018

20 rows makes about 4” worth of arm… and I’ve got about 10.5” worth of body below the armhole. 75% of a skein makes about 5.5” worth of body; which means a whole skein can be counted on for 7.25 inches of body.
My math suggests that I’ll end up with about a quarter of a skein left over. So… cutting it kinda close.

December 13, 2018

OK, so I need to keep going on the arms until I have about 5.5” left to go… Which means that they need to be about 14.5” long. Then I can figure out how I’m going to divvy up the last two-ish skeins so that the darker color ends up a band on the sleeve and body hems in the same width.
Sleeves are currently about 6” long.

Update: The sleeves are now about 8” long… time to start the decreases!

December 26, 2018

I’ve completed two reduction sections of one sleeve and I’ve started the first on the second sleeve.

December 30, 2018

Working on the last reduction section of one sleeve. Then on to the last few reduction sections on the other sleeve.
I’m going to split the last slightly off-color skein 60/40, and use the 60% for the last few inches of the body and the 40% for the last few inches of the sleeves. Hopefully my maths all work out to fairly accurate.

December 31, 2018

Ok, each sleeve and the body needs 20 rounds; 10 of which will be ribbing. I’m going to wind the slightly off-color final skein tonight and then call it a morning.
The final reduction repeat on each sleeve isn’t perfect, but they match and I have the proper number of stitches. I think. slightly_smiling_face

Updated to add: One sleeve has been completed and bound off! I did 4 rounds after the reduction, then faded in the last skein (rounds 5 and 7), and continued with it for rounds 9 through 14 after the reduction. Round 15 was the final set up for the ribbing, and then I did 10 rounds of ribbing on the smaller needles, and bound off on round 26 after the reduction.

Almost done!

January 1, 2019

Bound off the second sleeve and worked the body almost to the ribbing…

January 2, 2019

Finished the ribbing and bound it off today. Weaving in the ends and blocking tonight.
