Hooked on and completed the first 6 Rows to test gauge before I realized that I was using US terminology to interpret a pattern written in UK terms. I was doing triple and double crochet instead of double and single crochet. Consequently my piece was SIGNIFICANTLY off gauge.

I’ve finished section 1 and I’m staying with my Blueberry Whirlette until there is 18 grams-ish left… hopefully that allows me to finish my Whirl almost completely and get that last color change at the border after the extension.
I’m using a 3.25 mm hook and I was just a touch bigger than gauge after row 6; about 1/4 inch. At the end of section 1 I’m under the BLOCKED gauge, but that’s because I’m not blocking as I go. I’m confident that I’m pretty close to on point size wise, were I to block it.
The pattern is good so far, in my opinion. I’m excited for section 2!

Section 2 is complete. I again ended up struggling with the pattern needlessly. I misread the instructions and kept trying to figure out how to do a picot instead of a popcorn stitch… I ended up realizing that I was doing the wrong things after about 10 minutes of arguing with my project. :-) Maybe I ought to work on it when I’m less tired.
Overall, I still love the pattern and the results that I’m getting from this yarn. This is definitely a fun MAL.

I finished Section 3 early this morning. Finally switched to my Whirl in the last third of the section and have reached my first color change… I’m very excited about that. :-)

Finished Row 56 very early this morning. I’ve reached the second color change. Pattern is still easy to follow and working out very well.
I’m a tiny bit annoyed that the lace stitches in between the circle and heart motifs aren’t meant to line up with the lace stitches before and after the motifs. But that’s just my OCD talking, I think.

Finished the Extension section this past weekend on our way back from our son’s birthday camping trip. Now just the border remains. I may repeat the border rows more than called for in order to reach the last full color change.

Finished the crocheting today… I’ve added two rows in the border to try to get to the solid yellow, but wasn’t able to get there. I ended up cutting out several yards of yellow with one pink strand, and adding the solid yellow back in for the last row.
I’ll be weighing the leftover yarn and recalculating where I should start my Whirl if I decide to do the Whirlette —> Whirl variety again.
September 24, 2018
Starting weight of my Whirl was 214.2 grams and I ended up with 9.2 grams left (with the Extension and two extra ad-libbed Border rows).
Starting weight of my Whirlette was 98.8 grams and I was left with 18.4 grams.
So I ended up using 205 grams of the Whirl and 80.4 grams of the Whirlette. I could’ve used only 70 grams of the Whirlette and still likely had yarn to spare at the end of my whirl. This is great info for next time, although I think that I’d probably just start with the Whirl and use a Banana Whirlette at the end instead.
