It seems like I looked at a thousand Basketweave Baby Blankets here on Ravelry before I decided on a pattern for mine.
My version requires a 124-stitch cast-on, 8 rows of seed stitch for the top and bottom borders, and 6-stitch borders on the side. The basketweave pattern is 4 sts by 6 rows. The top and bottom borders and each BW square are 1” in height.
The dimensions of the blanket are approximately 28” x 28”.
When I began knitting, I didn’t realize that the 4 skeins of yarn I had wouldn’t be enough. About half to two-thirds of the way through, I used another skein of the same color but a different dye lot, knitting two rows of the original dye lot and two rows of the new dye lot. It created a bit of a striped pattern because the new dye lot was darker than the original. You can barely notice it, and I consider it to be a “design element.”
In hindsight, I think I would have swatched a 5-st x 6-row BW pattern because the blocks resulting from the 4 x 6 pattern I used look a little too long. Oh well … maybe next time.
The yarn is incredibly soft (a lot softer than Lily’s Sugar and Cream cottong); it’s too bad the company has gone out of business. I understand Lily’s S & C bought them out.
