Notes

This baby sweater is made out of two “granny-square” hexagons (6 sides instead of 4) which form the left and right sides. Each side incorporates a front, back, and sleeve. There are no sewn seams. The center back seam that connects the two hexagons is crocheted.

I found this sweater on the Internet. The original written instructions can be found at:

http://tinascrochetpage.blogspot.com/2008/06/hexagon-baby...

The blogger watched 4 YouTube videos in Portuguese that demonstrate how the sweater is made and then developed written instructions in English from them. Here’s a link to the first video:

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=BR&hl=pt&v=qlYhLA...

If you use the written instructions, note that one of the hexagons has a round less than the other that isn’t accounted for in the instructions. The final round of the hexagon with one less round is incorporated in the center back seam that joins the two hexagons, after which the other 5 sides are crocheted.

I changed the video pattern by adding a ribbed bottom edge made with front and back post double crochet stitches (same as sleeve cuffs) and buttons and button holes to close the jacket front. I’m in the process of creating my own pattern and will post it here (for free) when I’m done.

As for size, the sweater is 20 inches across the chest, so given a couple of inches for ease, it would probably fit an 18” chest size (3 - 6 month-old).

So far, I’ve made 4 versions of this sweater.

Update: 6-20-12

I created a pattern for my version of this sweater and had it up on my blog, but I had to take it down because it had some errors in it. As soon as it’s republished, I’ll add a link to it here. Thanks for your patience.
