Notes

A Bert costume for my nephew who is 3.

I used the in-Peace Vest pattern but not having it button down and adding sleeves. Tutorial found here: eHow: How to Crochet a Sweater

Craft Yarn Council has Child/Youth standard body measurements. I used this for figuring out the sleeve length and width. For size 4, it should be 10 1/2 inches long and about 10 1/2 inches wide. I chained 35 and did 34 sc’s.

Around the neck I did one row of green in sc, then slip-stitched one row around. I started down on the V and worked my way around, then did a ch1 and worked back. This way you can sew an overlap to look like Bert’s sweater. Change to blue and do the same. I row of sc and one of sl st. Finish off and fold one side over the other and sew a few stitches to hold it in place. Make sure you sc and sl st loosely so the neck doesn’t get too tight! Could also make the V a little deeper.

I have a white turtle neck to go underneath.
