I am a fool. I ordered this yarn to make Evie something very nice. The idea was to use it with some stash remnants that I thought I had. Not only did I order the wrong yarn, but it also doesn’t go with the stuff in the stash, so now I have two lots of yarn and not enough of either to make the very nice cardi in my queue. I also managed to cut through 4 strands of a skein when I opened the package.
Now I am stuck with trying to use it up on something little. So this is my least worst option - it’s probably something she’s likely to wear, although it’s not my most favourite pattern. I think the cuteness potential in all in the proportioning. Sleeves mustn’t be too long - and body not too bulky. So let’s see how it goes.
I thought this yarn was cherry red, but it’s more like paprika…which made me think of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ By the Way…

This would have taken far less time if I understood the pattern. I am not very familiar with knitting lace, so I was very confused by the instruction to M1…I thought this meant make one…eventually I realised I needed to follow the chart. Then I didn’t follow the chart. I followed what I thought the chart said….much frogging, and re-frogging, indeed. Now I have gone away for the weekend and haven’t brought the smaller needles for finishing the neckband. Grump.

Cast off, just going to block and add buttons.
I do like:
- This yarn and its very intense colour. It’s very soft, and has really good stitch definition.
- The chunky ribbed neckband. Enjoyed making this bit!
- The fact there is so little sewing to do to finish this.
I don’t like:
- The lace detail…it doesn’t do a lot for me. I hope it may look better after blocking.
- The buttons. I thought about adding some fabric covered ones, but then thought something simple might make it more wearable. These were (once again) my least worse option
- The slightly old fashioned styling…though think I
need Evie to try it on before I make a final
judgement.
My buttons and the beautiful quilt in first three pics is from lovely new yarn shop in Denby Dale, Unravel…promising range of yarns, including lovely hand dyed from the Shetlands, plus Malabrigo, Noro and more, plus stunning Indian textiles…(I went in for buttons and a browse, came out with buttons and a quilt after having to seriously restrain myself…!)
