Notes

Cuff
Norwegian CO 64 sts using US1.
Super wash loosened with wear from 9.5 spi to 8 spi.
20 rows = 1.75”
Used the Twisted German Cast-on

Roll cuff for a bootie style:
Cuff is 6 rounds knit, 6 rounds k1, p1.

Leg
72 rows (18 repeats of 4-row Pattern)= 5”

Heel
51 rows
This pattern uses garter stitch boarder on the heel flap which I like for picking up stitches and I like the tailored look of this border.
Eye of Partridge Heel Flap= 2”
Heel cap + gusset = 2.5”

Foot
64 rows (16 repeats of 4-row pattern)

Wedge Toe
Hermione’s Pattern For Toe is 19 rows:
Decrease row and (repeat decrease every 3rd Row) 3 times
(Decrease every other row) three times,
Decrease every row four times to 24 sts.
Kitchener remaining 12 sts per needle.

Notes for Other Sock Techniques:

Rounded Toe over 26 rows: decrease every other round until 30 sts remain. Decrease every round 5 times, Kitchener the last 20 sts or a little over an inch across each side.

Short Row Heels
To close up corner gaps with the W&T Short Row Heels: After you work the double wraps on one side of heel (on the RS), W&T the first instep stitch leaving it on the instep needle. Work across heel sts (on the WS) and the double wraps on the other side of heel, W&T the first instep st. and leave the wrapped stitch on the instep needle. You’re back to the RS and ready to work in the Round starting across the heel sts and working the two wrapped instep sts as you come to them.

Sock Measurements & Correlations
Foot circ: 8.8” (don’t include bunion because it only affects 10% of foot length)
Sock circ = foot circ x 0.9
Gusset circ: 9.5” (10-15% larger than foot circ)
Ankle circ: 8.8”. (About the same as foot circ)
Low calf circ at 6” Length: 9.5”
(Low calf ~12% larger than ankle circ)
Low calf circ at 7” Length: 10.25”
Foot Length: 10.5”. (5-10% larger than foot circ)
Adult sock Length = foot Length - 1/2”
Child sock length = foot length - 1/4”
Toe length: 2”
Heel diagonal: 12.25”. (~35% larger than foot circ)

Foot circ/ankle circ = 0.95 to 1.05
if >1.1 adjust for larger foot relative to ankle
If 1.5 adjust for high arch
If s quite easy!)
3. After the heel cup is complete, you’ll need a way to resume knitting in the round so that you can start the foot of the sock. So, you pick up the stitches along the side of the heel flap you’ve just created until you reach the other half of the stitches waiting at the front of the sock. You could just keep knitting across, but if you do, there will always be a little gap at the corner. This gap is what creates the holes (also known as pig’s eyes!) and it can be very frustrating. Who wants a little hole in a brand new sock?
The solution is usually to pick up an extra stitch or two in the gap, but as I learned, if you’re not careful how you pick up those stitches, you can sometimes inadvertently create an even bigger and more noticeable hole. There are a few different ways to tackle this.

Another sock knitter suggested giving an average stitch count on socks: there’s about 20,000 stitches.
