Stretchy Bind offs vs amount flare
https://www.susannawinter.net/post/updated-comparison-of-...
Jenny’s Interlock Bind Off is similar to sewn Italian BO
Set-up: go through 1st stitch back to front and then last stitch back to front making a figure eight.
If first st is a knit, take tapestry needle knitwise through 1st stitch and slip st off LN and knitwise in 2nd stitch and leave on LN. pull tapestry needle yarn through those two loops.
If next st is purl, tapestry needle goes through next two sts purlwise by purl and slip off and purlwise and keep on LN pull tapestry needle yarn through but place thumb in tapestry yarn loop, pass tapestry needle through loop either front to back or back to front depending on which side of fabric yarn is on then snug loop up. Continue working around whole circumference of cuff. When at beginning, pass tapestry needle through beginning then ending loop the thumb caught on the other times, forming figure eight, passing the tapestry needle opposite from how you started, front to back on beg loop and front to back on last loop.

Photos of Cuffs:
-Blue Eyelet is Toe-up with Tubular Bind off
-Dark green Sock is Toe-up and uses Hazel Tilley’s favorite Russian Bindoff: k2tog, pass st back to left needle and repeat. Also called Lace Bind off
53% stretch, 4% flare
https://www.louisetilbrookdesigns.net/everyday-knitter/20...
-Double Decrease but also called Russian BO: work 2 sts in pattern, insert left needle into front of the 2 sts and knit 2tog through back loop. Knit next stitch in pattern, insert Left needle into front of the 2 sts on RN and k2tog tbl.
-Sewn BO of Eliz Zimmerman has same stretch as ribbing. 109% stretch, 4%flare

Icelandic is good BO for Garter St
Moderate stretch 65%, flare 9%

Other good stretchy Bindoffs with No flare
Italian Invisible Bind Off 91% stretch and 0 flare
Jeny Interlocken Bind off 117% stretch and 0 flare

Toe
JMCA 12 sts., knit one round.
Increase every round to 40 sts.
Then increase every other round to 60 sts.
Then increase every third round to 72 sts.
Knit even until toe is 2” in length

Gusset
Increase every other row one st in from edge to 72 sts on the sole half.

There will be 53 rows for gusset and heel cup.
Row gauge is 12 rows per inch
Want finished sock length to be 9.75”, which allows 1/2” neg ease to fit actual foot length 10.25”
9.75” - (53 rows / 12 rpi)
9.75” - 4.4” = 5.25”

Start gusset increases when sock is 5.25” from cast-on.

Heel Cup
Forming w German Short Rows to make DS
On heel needle, Sock B:
Knit across 18 gusset sts, PM#1, knit across 36 Center sts, PM#2. Turn and make DS.
(WS) Purl across & make DS one stitch away from last DS.
Continue making DS every other stitch until 6 Center sts remain and last DS approached from purl side, turn and make last DS and same # DS on each side.

Heel Flap and Decrease Gussets
Set up rows:
K across center and the DS’s on left side until last DS. SSK the last DS together w first gusset st. Turn.
Slip 1, P across to other end and p2tog the last DS w gusset. Turn
Start heel pattern:
(RS) Slip 1, k1 to 1 st before gap. SSK across gap, Turn.
(WS) Slip 1, Purl across to end, P2top to close gap. Turn.
Repeat until one gusset sts each side and ready for RS.
Knit across and SSK across gap. Do not turn and work across to last gusset sts, but leave yarn work instep after working heel shaping on sock (A). Knit insteps A&B. Then on heel side of Sock B, close that last gap w K2tog.

Knitted Gusset length: 2 7/8”
Knitted Heel cup: 1 1/2”
Knitted Heel flap: 2” tall & 3” wide

Slip St Helicopter Stripes
Red contrast colour round is K3 P1 to end of round, main cream colour is K3, Sl 1 purlways with yarn in back, rpt to end of round
After 6 rounds, I switch to starting with contrast K1, P1, then K3, P1, to last 2 St, K2. Then the main cream colour is K1 Sl 1, K3 Sl 1 to last 2 St, K2
Hope this makes some sense!

Comparing 12 Stretchy Bindoffs

Liat’s Stretchy Invisible Sewn Bindoff for 1x1
https://youtu.be/23uJSGokBDA

A very stretchy bind off as demonstrated by Donna Druchunas (I love this bind off). Basically you knit the first two sts, keep them on the R needle and k2tog tbl as in ssk.

Another knitter calculated the number of sts using Excel:
Gauge 9spi and 14 rounds per inch
For a 72 stitch adult sock with a long leg, you would have 30 rows ribbed cuff (2160), 70 rounds leg (5040), wedge heel (624), 65 rows foot (4680), and wedge toe (624) = 13,128 stitches for one sock. If you use a finer yarn and 84 stitches per round, more rows for leg and foot, you’ll get closer to 15,000 sts per sock. I just ran the calculations in Excel. That’s how I’m built.
Suzanne Bryan:
Her gauge seems to be 8spi and 10 rounds per inch
It would be interesting to count the stitches. I know my socks are 60 sts in circumference and not counting the ribbing, toe or heel, i do 120 rounds. That is 7200 stitches.
Another response:
I think it’s about 25,600 if you cast on 64 and you knit about 200 total rounds on each sock.

The average plain stockinette sock has about 8,500 stitches. That’s 425 minutes of knitting at top speed, which works out to be about 7 hours…
