Jan 11, 2017. Sewed hems, began neckband.
Jan 10, 2017. Cast off body and did sewing machine work in steeks.
October 2016. Dug this project out again. It WILL be finished!
April 2013 - entering the home stretch!! I’m up to the chin of the sailor in the boat! Yeah!! Plus having done the the sleeves first, I’m farther along than it appears. I’ll be changing the chart, making those silly birds into flying dragons.
Couldn’t resist posting a couple of shots taken of this project with my iPad’s kaleidoscope function.
12 Nov 12 I decided to use bigger needles for the body, so the swatch became irrelevant. I frogged and re-cast on for the body Oct 31, and it’s going really quickly! In the “tiles” section, it’s easy and repetitive enough to work on at Knit & Natter, and when it gets to the hull of the boat, it’s super easy, and an excellent exercise in weaving in your carried threads. Weaving is a “must”, as some of the carries are 20 stitches long!!
03.02.11 The first sleeve is now to the elbow. The Knit Picks Swish DK Superwash yarn is a tad slippery for stranded work, but doable. Care will have to be taken in preparing the steeking, as the superwash is so slippery. I’d prefer to use a good “grippy” Shetland wool, but need easy care for my MIL.
Interesting the magic of photos. I’ve been keeping a close eye on the pattern while knitting, but in looking at the photos, I instantly found 2 places that need a touch of Swiss Darning.
I’m knitting this ‘inside out’ to keep the work clean, and also help the floats from pulling. I’m also starting with the sleeves a) so they’re my gauge swatch, b) to get the boring bit done first - all that fishnet!! and c) to get the shaping behind me at the beginning.
12.29.11 I’ve just finished charting the entire Dragon Boat sleeve, since the snippet of sleeve chart given is nowhere near the full width of the sleeve. Apparently I can’t count the pattern out from the middle to the edge accurately, let alone do increases in pattern all the way up!! Sooooo much easier with a proper chart!!!
12.28.11 Cast on and started a sleeve. True to my nature, there are pattern modifications. The last row of facing, turning row, and first row of sleeve I worked in pink, for a little splash of colour.
