FINAL NOTE: Definitely….a bear to get through. 104000+ stitches, 8 hours of icord bindoff though maybe this is par for the course for large shawls. LOVE this yarn, can’t say that enough. The middle puckers out which I guess is a function of shifting to stranded color work which doesn’t stretch so much. It’s not obvious when wearing it, so not a problem. The figuring out of the transition corners for patterns was so hard for my brain to wrap itself around. Really grateful for the assistance over in Rox Rocks. Still a mega-swatch! But at least a wearable one for once!
NOTE 5: I’m really intrigued by the geometry/architecture of knitting, and so I started this center-out square from a pinhole cast on with the idea of elaborating a traditional Arab headscarf. My idea is to transition from one color to another via helical knitting, and finishing the whole thing with an applied edge border as seen in other project experiments.
NOTE 4: So after so much work with the kufiyyeh pattern I must say that the steeking stuff while providing a sense of accomplishment isn’t preferable to me. I started thinking how it might be possible to spiral out into a kufiyyeh pattern and I drew up a diagram which will involve….kfbl’s up the middle of a repeat? This is how my brain is planning it; any advice is appreciated!
NOTE 3: Okay so I started working on the kufiyyeh pattern after hitting 80 stitches per quadrant. Spent hours staring at the pattern mockup I did in Illustrator, as well as trying to work it out on graph paper and I realize that the image in my head is completely wrong. What is the reason for increasing every other round? Is it possible to increase every round, and then plan for a motif that completes the pattern? Or am I doomed to just have black holes in the pattern? I’ve added where my non-math-inclined brain is now concerning how I’m envisioning things.
NOTE 2: More endless staring…. No, 45 x 2 = 90, duh. Muddled brain attempts to wing it. Things click, and thus the chart to bring the pattern to existence from nothing. The biggest swatch which might just be something wearable.
NOTE 1: I started a topic to discuss my learning process which I imagine might not have required a 24-inch square swatch to get to!
