Notes

Great pattern for a simple base cardigan that’s not top-down. I will almost certainly be making this again, maybe next time with intarsia elements.

3.28.12
I’m taking a finishing techniques class at Trumpet Hill this spring and wanted a quick cardigan with lots of seams! This seems like it should fit the bill. When I went hunting in my stash to find yarn, the Silk Garden leapt out at me -- I’d been saving it for who-knows-what for such a long time, and suddenly it seemed like the perfect thing!

I’m doing the seed stitch edges in a dark brown Cascade 220 and striping the Silk Garden every two rows.

4.2.12
Going fine. I’ve ripped back and messed with the color order a couple of times when stretches of too-similar colors ended up striping. I’m doing the arms first. I’m a little concerned that I won’t have enough yarn, even though I do have plenty according to the pattern -- but it seems like both sleeves are nearly using half my yarn! Anyway, if it seems dire, I figure I can always throw another skein of something more-or-less related if it seems necessary.

5.7.12
Gosh, proper finishing does take a while! Worth the trouble, though. I’m very pleased with how this project is turning out. And I had plenty of Noro -- enough to pick and choose among runs of color when I needed to. The only thing I would do differently if I did this again would be to add a third row to the final stripes of the arms and shoulders to allow for seaming -- the way I did it, I lost a row of each stripe to the seams.

10.22.12
Now that the cupcake is actually wearing it (and it fits her perfectly at 14-15 months), I’m even more pleased with how it came out. I get compliments on it all the time, and the silk blend is a nice mid-weight layer for crisp fall days. She wears it pretty much every day!

5.17.13
Adding a note to say how impressed I am with how this sweater has held up. She wore it several times a week all fall, winter, and early spring, and it’s hardly pilled. I wouldn’t have chosen Silk Garden for a kid’s sweater -- I used it because I happened to have it already -- but I almost certainly will again because it’s stood up to standard toddler abuse with aplomb!
