Notes

I chose Ghost Horses by Boyland Knitworks as my colorwork project for June 2021. I really enjoyed this piece. There was never a dull moment throughout the knit work. The body was actually knitted up more quickly than I thought as the chart is easy to memorize. Thumbs up for this beautiful pattern and clear instructions.

Below is my notes for this sweater in size 2. I did some modifications to get the fit I prefer. Otherwise, pattern instruction is pretty straight forward.

Holst Garn Supersoft
C1 Nougat
C2 Flannel Grey

3.25mm Collar CO, yoke and sleeves
3.00mm Neck hem, neck short rows and body hem
3.50mm Body
2.75mm Sleeve Cuff

Collar

  • I tend to cast on tightly, so I cast on using 3.25mm needle
  • Switched to 2.75mm needles for the neck ribbing and then 3.00mm for neck short rows

Yoke
Worked Chart A Round 1-64 using 3.25mm needles

Separating body and sleeves

  • Made some modifications to increase body stitches to 228 sts as follows
  • From BOR, with C2, knit 54, place 74 sts on holder for right sleeve, cast on 6 sts for underarm, knit 108 sts, place next 74 sts on holder for left sleeve, cast on 6 sts for underarm, knit 54 sts to BOR.

Body

  • Worked Chart B Round 1-18 five times using 3.50mm needles.
  • Imade some modifications as I prefer a longer and looser body with a slight A-line fitting. Made 4-stitch inc on each side of underarm in: 1st set Chart B, round 4; 3rd set round 4; 4th set round 9. Increased 24 stitches.
  • Body hem ribbing: 12 rounds of k2, p2 and BO in purl

Sleeves

  • Switched to 3.25mm needles for sleeve and worked Chart B 4 times.
  • I did the sleeves 2/3 length so I needed a wider cuff. I modified the Decrease Round as follows: k2tog 2 times, (k2tog, k1) 24 times, k2tog 2 times. 28 sts decreased.
  • Sleeve cuff: 11 rounds of k2, p2 and BO in purl

Measurements after blocking:
The yarn softened and relaxed after washing.
Collar circumference: 15”
Bust circumference: 36”
Hem circumference: 40”
Body length from front neckline: 21”
Body length from underarm: 14”
Upper arm circumference: 11”
Sleeve cuff circumference: 8”
Sleeve length: 12”

Since my gauge is slightly smaller than pattern, I would knit size 3 next time for added ease if I use the same yarn.
