Preview knit for BT. I am knitting size 3, straight body. I will add some length to both the sleeves and the body.
My PRE-block swatch gauge is 4.25 st/in; 7 R/in. Once I began knitting the actual garment, my gauge is 4.5 st/in; 6.8 R/in (the pattern gauge is very similar but AFTER blocking).
My gauge is a bit looser than the pattern. I chose this size with my slightly looser gauge in mind so that I will have more positive ease, between 8-10” (for size 3, 196 st/4.25 st/in = 46.12” which for me will be 10” positive ease).
Despite the simplistic beauty of the preview pattern I am struggling with a few areas.
I did not reach expected yoke depth for size 3 at the point in the pattern when the body and sleeves are divided. I had only a shallow 5” when I should have 9”. No way this will fit under my arms. So I went over instructions again very carefully. I looked at my knitting progress. My stitch counts at various points were all correct. I do not know where a problem occurred. Rather than frogging it, I decided to move forward. I knit many more rows, keeping in pattern, till I had enough yoke depth. Then I knit the short row section. Then I divided for body and sleeves.
Meanwhile my raglans finished before reaching the division so they are shortened. I also reached the 6-st center garter stitch pattern before the pattern indicates because I had to add depth to the yoke while continuing the shift instructions to keep in pattern.
I am noticing puckering of fabric on either side of the raglans which I think and hope will smooth out with blocking. Yes, they are smoothing out with blocking, yay!
Final post-block measurements, 10” positive ease:
Gauge: 4.25 st/in; 7 R/in
Yoke depth, from top of shoulder to underarm: 9”
Total sweater length: 23”
Chest circumference: 46”
Body Length, from underarm to hem end: 14”
Sleeve length, from underarm to cuff end: 17”
Upper arm circumference: 13.25”
It is vibrant with a cool effortless vibe and so incredibly comfy.
