The Woolly Thistle’s Sweater KAL, Aug 25, 2023.
Gauge: US 10, 3.5 st/in, 4.75 rows/in
Bottom up sweater:
Color A: Fuchsia
Color B: Glacier Blue
Color C: Galaxy
Pockets 20R/4” Fuschia, 2 rows Fuchsia and Glacier, end with top 8R Glacier.
Pockets are sewn in later. The pocket is actually a pocket lining that is knit bottom up separately; the top stitches are held on a dpn waiting to be inserted when the time comes. When the body is about 7” from the cast on edge, then it is time to incorporate the pocket: bind off 20 stitches on the body in the appropriate area, knit around to that spot and now knit across with the live stitches from the dpn. Sew the sides and bottom of the pocket lining on the wrong side of the sweater after blocking.
I’m remembering how quickly Lopi knits up.
Despite many years of knitting, I’ve never knit pockets. I am smitten and now cannot see a future without them
For the first color change, I’m knitting a modified version of the sparkle motif. Fuchsia and Glacier Blue.
The next color change will incorporate a few single row stripes. Glacier Blue and Galaxy.
I think I will do the stripes on the sleeves, too, near the cuffs. One cuff Glacier Blue, one cuff in Fuchsia.
At the shoulder: wow! Admiring the neatly genius sloped bind off. I’m used to doing the stair-step thingy, but this slope will make a smoother seam at the shoulders.
I love little details like this that the designer considers for the knitter.
I’m not gonna lie, there were some hair-pulling moments during the armhole/shoulder/neck shaping scenario. The pattern instructions were in English but they weren’t making any sense to me! There was a lot of “at the same time” and “meanwhile” you know like “shape this row at the same time hold up your right leg, meanwhile bend over backwards as you knit four whatsits together”, lol! Good news is… it seems to have turned out alright.
I knit a previous project with Lettlopi and with wearing, it has stretched on me. So for this project, I am mindful of this personal detail and made specific adaptations such as knitting it one size smaller than usual (‘really hoping that blocking and wearing will make it just right’, said redheaded Goldilocks
). And for the cuff, I knit a twisted ribbing and bound off each stitch through the back loops. It does look very neat yet still has stretch.
