Figuring out what size I wanted to make and how to achieve gauge was the biggest challenge when I started making the #pengweeno for my niece, Adi. She is 4 and I wanted her cardi to be a little oversized and maybe for her to get 2 winter seasons out of it. For this reason (and also because I always have a slightly tighter gauge than Mr WestKnits), I decided to skip the Toddler Size (ages 2-4) and go for the Kiddo 1 Size (ages 6-8). You can see from the photo it is swimming on her! She will still be able to wear it, but it’s will definitely be another year before it fits comfortably. My other niece, Neve, is 6 and it’s the perfect size for her. My daughter Sanne is 8 and she could definitely wear it too, but it would be a more fitted style and I would need to add a longer border. But what an awesome design that can fit and look good across three different ages!

I held 3 strands of fingering weight yarn together and used 5mm needles.
