November 3rd:
I am taking a pattern from this years Brigitte Stricken Spezial as a starting point: I use the knitting pattern - a variation of garter stitch and the measures regarding length, width, arm length/width.
My yarn has a finer gauge so I had to re-calculate all stitch and row counts.
I am also adding a collar and alter the construction, trying to avoid any visible seams and making the most of my yarn:
I have started with a provisional CO at the back, with arms and shoulders (as in the original pattern I am knitting arms and shoulders in one piece).
I knitted the collar top-down, just a rectangle the length of the neckline and 8 cm high.
At the shoulder top I bound off the back neckline stitches together with the back central stitches of the collar in a three-needle-BO and continue each side over the remaining arm / shoulder and front collar stitches.
Nov 5th:
Yesterday I finished the arms. I knit down both front shoulders and arms and grafted the lower arm seams. I took all remaining stitches on one needle and am now knitting the rest of the coat in one piece top-down.
Nov 15th:
Finished knitting, now I have to sew in all those loose ends - there are lots and lots of them as there were only 50 yards per skein and it took 18 skeins for the whole cardi…
Sep 25th, 2014:
This has been hibernating for a long time, as I did not like the completed cardi on myself - I felt like a huge purple yeti… Have now sewn in all loose ends and given the cardi to my sister who adores it - and it looks perfect on her!
