Costume for my son

  • 9/17/2017 - This pattern is a bit crazy but I just went for it. The numbers don’t add up but just used the chart as a basic guide for the body.
  • 9/30/2017 - Finished with the sleeves debated adding the chart to the sleeves but decided my brain just didn’t want to figure that math out.
  • 10/1/2017 - Sleeves added and the raglan decreases are done, the stitch count was still off but along with the charting and decreasing I just didn’t care, lol. It all worked out in the end.
  • 10/3/2017 - So I got really ticked off at this hood, it looked NOTHING like the sample pattern… it was huge and ugly and not cute and fitted like the pattern. So ripped it out and started from scratch. Looks way better now, the ribbing wasn’t working out either so when I got to the end of the row I knit 3 tog/3 ptog instead of 2 tog/2 ptog.
  • 10/4/2017 - Still needing to knit a tail and add the ears but it is so cute and my son is very excited about his new sweater :D

  • I didn’t add the button hole band but instead I left those stitches out. I instead finished the body of the sweater and then picked up stitches along the body starting at the top, then I got to the bottom I cable casted on 20 stitches then started knitting back and forth across these stitches when I got to the main body stitches I K2TOG then turned the and worked back and forth again. I worked like this but also decreased about every 2 inches or so with a K3TOG until I have about 7 stitches at the top.

  • The hood: Started with 64 sts. then knit in Stockinette st until the hood measures 4 1/2 inches ending on a right side row Shaping the top of the hood: Next row: P21, PM, P22, PM, Purl to end Decrease Row: Knit to 3 sts before next marker, SSK, K1, SM, K1 K2TOG 2 times, knit to end - 60 sts. Work even in st st for 3 rows. Repeat last 4 rows (1) times -56 sts. Repeat decrease row -52 sts. Next row Purl Repeat last 2 rows 6 times - 28 sts. Divide sts evenly onto two needles (14 sts on each needle) and graft top of hood.

  • Ears: Pick up 7 sts side by side Knit in the round 1 row K1, M1R, knit to last st before end, M1L, k1 (9 sts on each needle) Knit 1 row K1, M1R, knit to last st before end, M1L, k1 (11 sts on each needle) Knit 2 rows K1, M1R, knit to last st before end, M1L, k1 (13 sts on each needle) K1, SSK, knit to last st before end, K2TOG, K1 (11 sts on each needle) Repeat this decease row until you have 5 sts on each needle then graft the top with the Kitchener st

  • The ribbing around the face didn’t work out the way the pattern stated, I only knitted about 7 rows and when I got to the sts on the st holder K3TOG instead of the K2TOG

  • 9/11/2023 - Entered this into the Utah State Fair this year and it won 1st place.
