1/16/09 - Ok, modification details.
Knit on 3’s with heavy worsted/aran weight wool. I make a lot of toys, and this is my standard choice. I wanted tighter gauge than the pattern suggested.
I did the body in ribbing. I did 4x4, I think. Were I to do it again I might do 3x1 or 3x2. It made the body not stand out as much from the noodles, by kinda breaking it up. I would also knit the body across a smaller number of stitches. it’s more bulky than I would have preferred.
I put the wires in after the icord making. I used florist wire, and bent the end over ~1”, and then bent that end in half, giving me an open inverted U shape at the end that was two widths thick. I hooked that through a blunt yarn sewing needle by putting it in to the needle eye at 90o to the needle, and then turning it to be in line. The second bending of the loop made it sort of lock into the eye, so that it didn’t fall out while I was lacing it through the icord. Then I slipped the needle out and wrapped the end in white electric tape to keep it from poking out.
The eyes are two spherical buttons looped onto the ends of a wire, as above, before electric taping it shut. I used a little sewing thread to lightly tack the i-cord in place at the “eye” because they kept alternating between getting lost and poking out too far so that the wire showed. I just ran it through the icord & the button hole a couple times.
12/21/08 - Largely complete, except that he needs more noodles. Gonna take a break and work on some other little projects.
12/17/08 - Switching pattern inspiration mid stream. I was working with a different one, but found this and think it’s a better representation. I am scaling it down to work on 3’s rather than 7’s so it will be smaller. I just prefer to knit more tightly.
12/7/08 - Charlie mentioned he would like an FSM. A-HA! Let the knitting commence!
