Hand: 7.5”
Thumb Position: 2-2 1/8”
Thumb Offset: 5/8”
Caston, Cuff, Hand, & Start of Flap
Throughout: 4 rounds new yarn, 1 round old yarn.
Co 26 using Tilly buddy’s stretchy caston
K1P1 ribbing for 1”
K2P1 ribbing, adding a stitch wherever, until piece measures 3”
Purl one round, increasing 7 evenly around
Knit one round, increasing 8 evenly around, offset from increases of previous round.
As you knit, rearrange for 24 stitches on first needle, 18 stitches on 2nd needle.
Knit the 24 stitches in pattern, knit the 18 stitches in stockinette. Every 8 rows, make 2 short rows over the 24 stitches (pattern rows 1&2).
Knit in pattern for 2”, measured from last row of cuff.
Knit 7 stitches with scrap yarn for thumb with a 3 stitch offset.
Knit an additional 1 1/2”.
Move stockinette stitches to scrap yarn.
At end of 24 stitches, backward loop co 18 sts. Continue in pattern in the round, knitting the 18 stitches in k1p1 ribbing, then continuing in stockinette as before.
length and decreases
knit as set until piece measures 5” from increases (3 repeats of short row?)
don’t forget short rows & every 5 th row old
For decreases, work 2 decrease rounds and one plain round throughout.
Decrease round: Work honeycomb pattern, k1, ssk, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
How to explain this?…when one honeycomb pattern is complete (8 rounds), beg of round changes to where next honeycomb starts. One less comb every time a new set of combs is begun (every 8 rounds). Extra stitches outside of new set of combs become “palmside” stitches. Decrease position therefore moves outward to accommodate these moved stitches.
