Want to knit another hat, hopefully more successful than the last, and with snugness similar to the one before that.
No idea when or where I got this yarn. I believe it was given to me when someone else cleared out their stash?
Figure it’ll likely be donation.
Had skimmed the pattern earlier this evening, but didn’t have in front of me when i cast on - i think there’s an extra row or two at the very center top - not worried about that.
Didn’t do a proper circular cast on that i could snug up -as with the last hat i just did regular cast on, it’s got some tiny gaps, and I’ll fill them in when weaving in the CO tail.
For mostly acrylic yarn, i really like the feel. I think this was a donation/cast-off yarn from someone else many many years ago.
Probably knitting on a needle size smaller than the pattern or yarn calls for, but i don’t want to risk a lacy hat.

Turned out a little looser than expected once blocked. It SEEMED like it was going to be perfectly snug. Need to started working in some negative ease. Then again - it’s not for either of us. ;-)
Played some SERIOUS yarn chicken near the end - could tell there was a risk of this when I started the brim, so I didn’t make it quite as long as suggested in the pattern.
This is definitely not a “fun” hat - no crazy colors or anything, but there are some folks who would probably prefer a more reserved, simple ribbed hat with a top-increase that might catch your attention and get a second glance. Interesting pattern, both with the increases at the top, and with reducing the number of stiches/ribs to create the brim-fold.
While I liked the overall look of the asymmetrical rib increases at the top of the hat - we both decided it wasn’t quite for us. I’m sure we’d still be plenty happy to wear this hat - it’s definitely a toasty warm one!
Anyhow - it’s finished, washed, and ready to be donated, along with the prior hat. Meanwhile, I’ve started another hat - worsted weight, single-ribbed, and it’s going fast, so I’ll have at least three to donate!
This hat is being knit as a donation for the Knit The Rainbow charity:

I became aware of this group after Cindy, owner of the local Harps & Thistles Yarn Emporium, mentioned it in her regular email newsletter.
