It’s easy, and there are a few partial balls of this yarn at hand, so it’s my newest crochet project.

March 30, 2024

As I neared the end of the white ball, I noticed an error several rounds back. After having ripped back to fix it and beginning to work again, I noticed another error another bunch of rounds further back.
I kept seeing errors and ripping back, until I had completely removed all three large balls!!
I now believe that the rippling problem may be simple - though unintentional - increases. To avoid that from here on, I will stop and count/reexamine every quarter round, even though it will slow down progress considerably.

March 31, 2024

Carefully counting after each straight edge, I’m now up to 47 stitches between the corners. I will proceed slowly, trying to avoid any more inadvertent increases.

April 7, 2024

I lost at yarn chicken!! By sixteen stitches!
So, later on, I’ll dig in the stash to see if I have any acrylic yarn about the same thickness as this.

April 15, 2024

Continuing with a labelled ball of yarn! It’s somewhat thinner than the unknown yarns before it.
It’s a very strange pink, in that it has pale purple blended in the entire length.

2249 hrs.
Round 29. Fourth side. I have counted three times, and always get 110. I counted the previous row. 107, as it should be. I cannot see where I lost a stitch!
So, I’m setting this aside for tonight. Maybe I’ll be better able to see/count tomorrow morning. RATS!!!

April 16, 2024

0418 hrs.
Round 30 done, but - again - when I counted, I was missing one stitch. Again, I don’t see where it’s missing. Counted twice. Will count again after a sleep.

1430 hrs.
I had to rip back two rounds into the white, to where I had not worked the last stitch into the corner. Back on track again. I need to make sure all five stitches are worked in the corner stitch, BEFORE continuing!

2245 hrs.
Back to adding the “dirty mottle of pink and lilac” as stated in:
https://www.knittingparadise.com/threads/are-my-eyes-out-...

April 19, 2024

0345 hrs.
Between five and six rounds of the strange mottled pink/lilac yarn, about a quarter through round 35.

1645 hrs.
Someone (or more than one?) cut and spliced whatever they were making many times in order to make matchy-matchy stripes and, in the process, create so many short bits of this yarn (these yarns?). However, joining them to make the next band of colour on this blankie should be satisfying. I’m beginning with the orangey bits, then continuing with the more pink ones.

April 20, 2024

Sometimes … I can’t see right!
Yes, both batches of yarn have the identical bits of green and pink, BUT the orangey yarn is much thinner - just right for this project, and already successfully added to it.

The bigger quantity of pinks is also much thicker; it’s now destined to become at least one 1898 Hat.

Back to stash-diving after a sleep.

April 21, 2024

A blue yarn is now being added. It’s still thicker than the preceding ones, so it will distort the shape. I don’t care. The goal is a warm covering for a body - human or animal. That remains to be determined.

April 24, 2024

I’ve finished round 40.
Now using the cut up bits of mostly pinks with the stamped-on green and darker pink and white bits. It’s so much easier to tuck in ends while crocheting over them! Heaven help anyone after me who decides to unravel this blankie!! It’s currently about 35” square.
Round 40 had 155 stitches on each side, plus the five in each corner for a total of 640 stitches around.
Yes, I’m still counting at the end of each side. Doing so has saved me some ripping out, so I’ll continue the blasted counting.
Next colour will probably be a grey. If I’m lucky, it might go around more than once, but I’m not betting on it.

April 25, 2024

The bag of pinks/white/green/red is finally empty! What a hodgepodge of thicknesses!!! For a while, I thought I had leftovers from different yarn weights, but finding differences in thickness on one, unbroken, length of yarn convinced me the problem is the applied dyes, not the spinning. Umpteen ends worked over.

April 26, 2024

I thought I had used up all the pinks, so I began the grey yesterday, and got halfway around. Then today I discovered a ball of the pinks. So, grey ripped out and I’ll add the last bit of pink, before continuing.

April 30, 2024

I’m thinking of calling this completed, when the navy blue runs out. Maybe two rounds?

May 2, 2024

0600 hrs.
I’m up to 191 stitches between the corners, and not much of the navy blue left.

May 3, 2024

1555 hrs.
End of round 49.
Two yards of navy blue yarn left.
784 Stitches around.
Approximately 42” square.
I’m really, really tired of counting each side as I go along.
This is done, until/unless I find more similarly thin/thick yarn. Since I haven’t added a border, it can conceivably be added it in the future.

May 5, 2024

0300 hrs.
Continuing, because I found what I think is suitable yarn just outside the wool room at the foot of the cellar stairs.
This unlabelled ball appears to be TLC Baby Multi, colour Bunny Print: https://www.ravelry.com/people/GlassMeerkat/stash/baby-mu...

May 7, 2024

0600 hrs.
Round 51 done. 816 stitches around!

May 8, 2024

0640 hrs.
Interesting that this Chocolate Mint yarn says “Sport” on the factor label, but is listed on Ravelry as “DK”.

2028hrs.
A note about elasticity. The TLC Baby yarn has zero stretch … UNTIL stitched up. At least as double crocheted fabric, it’s as elastic as the non-TLC Baby yarns.

May 9, 2024

1513 hrs.
More about the TLC Baby Chocolate Mint yarn. It’s bleeping splitty! I will attempt to avoid allowing any more of it into my stash. It is pretty once worked up, but I have to redo too many stitches as I go along. It’s probably my fault for using so small a hook. I bet it behaves better with a bigger hook.

May 10, 2024

0340 hrs.
I found a full 5oz. ball of Bernat Softee Baby just outside the wool room door. Pale blue. I think it’s next up.

May 11, 2024

I found more yarn! A whole skein of Softee Baby - cream coloured. A bunch of small balls of pink and pale lilac yarns - to alternate?

May 13, 2024

Not much progress on Mother’s Day.

May 13, 2024

I’ve begun using the little balls of pink and pale lilac yarns, and discovered that the pale lilac is three plues, while the pink is four. Yes, the pink is a bit thicker, but it’s going into this blanket anyway.

May 15, 2024

I don’t remember if these two previously used (knit or crochet?) yarns are from something I unraveled or if I had bought them already unraveled. Whichever, I am happily working them both into this blanket.

May 21, 2024

It has finally dawned on me just WHAT brand this collection of pink balls of yarn is! It’s Phentex Elite. https://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/phentex-elite#
I have used it before. It’s durable, but … were I not into the very last of the dozen or so balls of it, I would not have included it.

May 22, 2024

Finally finished off the many small balls of pink and pale lilac, but it can still grow some.
Next up is a full ball of Phentex Sport in pink.
Currently on round 65.

May 24, 2024

2220 hrs.
The ball of pink went two to three times around.
Next up is an unlabelled ball of creamy white.

May 28, 2024

The unknown ball of creamy white has run out.

Is it my imagination, or were there fewer knots in manufactured yarns years ago, than today? It hadn’t any.

Next up is ball of Real Red (so named on its ball band) from natura Ⓡ Advantage 100% Deluxe Acrylic 3-ply Sport Weight yarn. It seems a tad thicker than the last one, so may yield fewer rounds.

May 30, 2024

Into round 71, it roughly measures 5’1” across one edge. Big enough?

May 31, 2024

2155 hrs.
This Softee Baby yarn is bleeping splitty!! -1
I hope no more of it comes into my house!
I wonder if it’s as bad when knitting.

June 5, 2024

0400 hrs.
I wound the collapsing skein into a cake.
Have begun round 75.
An even 1,200 stitches around!

June 6, 2024

0655 hrs.
Just over 24 hours for one round!

I think this ball of Softee Baby will be the last, whatever size it is, when this Pale Blue runs out. The previous ball went about four times around. I’m guessing this will go for three and some. I will end it at the end-of-round point, so there’ll probably be some leftover.
I am not planning on any border, though I would be happier with a dark colour as the outermost edge. We’ll see if there’s something darker and thin enough to serve; stash digging is always fun!

June 13, 2024

Round 79. 5’7”.

June 13, 2024

2330 hrs.
I won at yarn chicken!!!
This square blanket next goes to the washing machine and dryer.

Numbers: 79 rounds.

1,264 stitches around.

June 23, 2024

I just saw this video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=307&v=vtItj...
IF I can find a batch of suitable yarn, I’ll add this border … once cooler weather returns.
