That white stick in the centre of the central square is a 12-inch ruler, for perspective’s sake. I never did measure the blanket. I guess it’s about 38” on each side, including the border.
The grey border is borrowed from the Truly Tasha’s Shawl pattern.
Forgotten needle size.
Acrylic yarns - assorted colours from assorted makers.
Here’s how I made it:
Every row was begun with a slipped stitch (purlwise) and ended with a knit stitch. It makes a neat chain edge which facilitates picking up stitches for the next block or for the edging. (I pick up in the back loops only.)
It began with the central square - the standard diagonal washcloth pattern. (http://www.groupepp.com/dishbout/kpatterns/grfavorite.html) I had only two balls of that lovely heathered teal, so half for the increases and half for the decreases - I didn’t count how many stitches I had on the needle at the mid-point. For sure, it was far more than the dishcloth pattern called for.
With pink (or orange?) yarn, picked up stitches along two opposite sides and worked the ball from both ends until it was just long enough to bind off.
With orange (or pink?) yarn, picked up stitches along the other two sides and worked to match the number of rows on the previous two blocks.
With dark blue yarn, picked up stitches along two adjacent sides and worked mitred squares to fill in the four corners.
With medium grey yarn, I knitted on the edging using the pattern from the Truly Tasha’s Shawl.
Easy, peasy, really!
Took photos, washed, dried, folded, and gave to a charity. I liked it, so I’ll probably repeat this in other colours/yarns and a different size.
