Unknown yarn. Soft. Pink. Not a big quantity.
Received new needles from Temu. Cockamamie sizes for the North American market; Chinese sizes 6 - 16, but totally unrelated to US, old UK, or metric size systems. Measured with a digital vernier calliper, they range from 1.61 mm (size 16) up to 4.80 mm (size 6).
So, with no real idea what I’m making, I have cast on 108 stitches, just the way my grandmother taught me in 1954 - simple e-loop. Joined in the round doing Magic Loop - my grandmother never had circular needles.
So far, three rounds and I’m thinking collar or headband.

Three rounds stockinette.
Continuing in 1x1 rib - 5 rounds so far, and continuing.
Tried it on my head. It might become a loose-fitting hat.
2200hrs.
Thinking of finishing as the 1898 Hat, I’ll reduce my 108 stitches to 84.

I did reduce stitches to 84, then switched to 1x1 ribbing.
After a while, I began decreasing as for the 1898, but maintaining the ribbing for another bunch of rounds. Eventually, I went to stockinette to the last seven stitches.
It’s finished. Because of the ribbing, it could fit an infant. Because the yarn is so soft and sort of limp, it can sit on my head without popping off.
Verdict on the needles:
EXCELLENT value! Not too pointy, not too blunt. Not quite as slippery as ChiaoGoo or HiyaHiya, though also stainless steel. Not as grippy as the original Boye NeedleMaster’s anodized aluminum tips. The cable is perfect for Magic Loop!
