So happy with this sweater!

Here are some tips I’ve shared with our amazing Tribe Trouville KALers (you can still join even though it’s finished, to get access to the videos etc).

Thought I’d share tips here too, in case it helps:

Cardigan Improvements:

  1. Casting on: do Long-tail cast on until steek-bridge, and cable cast on for steek bridge. (Cable cast on for whole neck is not stretchy enough)

  2. Start your ribbing with K3,p2 then (k2,p2) to last 3 stitches, k3. This will ensure you have neater, matching ribbing eithere side of the steek bridge.

  3. It’s better to work your steek bridge in stripes of vertical colour in the colourwork section (to make the floats nice and short).

  4. Make sure to work a jogless join! (More tips in the KAL videos.)

  5. It is usually possible to carry your yarns up for the stripes to reduce darning. Don’t catch vertical floats.

  6. For bottom ribbing, start and end the row with 3 knit stitches (2x2 rib in between) so that you have have a nicer edge for the button band.

  7. Cast off with italian bind off, or another stretchy bind off of your choice.

  8. For the sleeves, bind off in purl using Jeny’s Super Stretchy bind off.

  9. For button band - measure your own ratio, don’t trust that the pattern is correct for your gauge.

I wouldn’t knit the button band in st st. I don’t like a button band that curls over, I would do 2x2 rib or a steek sandwich. (More button band tips in the KAL videos.)

Sweater Improvements:

  1. Long-tail cast on until steek-bridge, and cable cast on for steek bridge. (Cable cast on for whole neck is not stretchy enough

  2. Do the short rows in the ribbing. It looks strange to do it in stocking stitch. Also, consider making your short rows longer so they are not made over such a narrow portion.

Or just don’t do them if you don’t want the pattern high in the back neck. I think it looks great without them.

  1. In the increases before chart 2, omit two increases (otherwise the checkerboard section won’t line up). Make those increases up in row 27 so you have the right number for the rest of the chart.

  2. Make sure to work jogless joins!

  3. It is usually possible to carry your yarns up for the stripes to reduce darning. Don’t catch vertical floats.

  4. Cast off with italian bind off, or another stretchy bind off of your choice.

  5. For the sleeves, bind off in purl using Jeny’s Super Stretchy bind off.
