This one took a while - my first seamed sweater and I think I’m basically not suited to it! But now it’s done I absolutely LOVE it. The shape is wonderful, really comfy and roomy and stylish at the same time. The way the shoulders and dolman sleeves are shaped, it hangs/sits really nicely and looks oversized in just the right way (i.e. not baggy in the “wrong” way!) I also love how the shoulder increases look along the finished sleeve seams, it’s a really nice detail.
I knit the size 51” (finished bust). For fit reference, my full bust is about 40” but rather full compared to my shoulders. So the narrow shoulder shape of this works really well for me. I find the body could stand to be slightly longer on me, even just by an inch, but it’s fine as is. The only modification I made to the pattern was to knit 4 times 5 rounds at the neckline (instead of 4 times 6 rounds) as I wanted it just marginally lower/narrower than pictured on the sample.
The wool is pretty rough and scratchy which, apart from the prospect of seaming all the pieces, was the other main reason this took so long to knit. I didn’t really enjoy the feel of it. However, I really like to wear sweaters made of quite ‘rustic’ feeling wool, and this one smells all lovely and sheepy too!
So basically, making this sweater was more about getting to the end product than enjoying the process. But what an end product - it’s a great sweater! Exactly what I needed as a winter wardrobe staple, and I know I’ll get tons of wear out of it, so it’s probably my most successful knit garment so far!
