So the Cascade 220 superwash has just been reclassified as a ‘light worsted’, and indeed this hat came out way too small! I realised it would right away as the fabric with 5mm needles was coming out much too ‘holey’ for my liking. I decided to just start again having sized down to 4.5mm, and make it for my 8 year old daughter. It’s all done and fits her fine - just waiting for a pom pom.

Lovely pattern, really interesting to knit and only a little bit difficult! Well it was the most complex cabling I’ve done so far anyway :-) I was astonished to find it easier to read the chart than the written pattern, which is something I’ve always struggled with before. I’m really pleased that that suddenly fell into place and made sense - this opens up a whole load of chart-only knitting possibilities!
