Happy WWKIP Day! Casting this on this morning so I have something interesting to show the public this afternoon! Naming it Westward Ho because I intend to do most of the knitting on it on my road trip with Dee.

So planned pooling experience comes in handy here. This pattern is a perfect match for the yarn, but my color changes started happening half a row too soon. Eventually realized that all I need to do is tighten up my gauge slightly to make each color last a bit longer. (Unfortunately, my first thought was to knit looser to fix the problem. Don’t know why that seemed like a good idea. It wasn’t.)
Note to self: never bother with a tab start again for a triangular shawl. This simple start looks great.

Second photo is at end of first day of knitting. Decided to rip out two stripes (before I took photo) after I realized that my color changes would land better if I tightened up my gauge a bit. Wonder what would happen if I switched to a sz. 6 needle?

Starting the border. Because I’ve had too much experience with garter borders flipping up, and because I am an EZ apostle, I will continue the edge and spine increases as the pattern says, but I’m going to decrease 10 percent of the body stitches away in the first RS row of the border. (Tried doing it on the first WS row and it looked terrible.) To make sure I have enough yarn for the bind-off, I’m only going to do six rows (three ridges) before executing the sewn bind-off.

Well, I’m about 20% along on the sewn bind-off, and it is wanting to flip. Will report back after blocking.
For the bind-off, I cut the yarn at 4x the length of the bottom edge and am tediously drawing about a quarter mile of yarn through every stitch. Three times. Hope to achieve an entire shawl without a single yarn break. Fingers crossed.

Flipping solved by blocking. Color me amazed.
