1” of ribbing was 6 rounds. I didn’t read the pattern closely enough and should have done another 3 rounds of rib to get to 1.5” for this size. Oh well, I’m already 6 rows in to the body of the hat so I don’t think I’ll start over. I’m basically considering this size M a gauge swatch because it might fit me but I’m pretty sure it won’t fit Bryce. Good thing I have plenty of this yarn!

I’m at 4” from the cast on in the stockinette section. Just 2.5” to go until I start the decrease rounds. I wish I hadn’t messed up the ribbing by making it too short, but this has been lots of fun so far.

And done.

It was my first time using double points, and that was educational.

The hat was fun to make and is usable but I don’t really like the look of the garter section. I can see why it was included because it made purl2tog necessary, and added purling practice in general, so this is a good learning piece for a newbie knitter like me. But I also don’t care for the shape of the crown.

Instead of making another just like this one to fix my ribbing mistake, I think I’ll do another simple hat pattern.
