Starting a new project is a little outrageous right now, especially a blanket, but this CAL looks like a lot of fun. I had already bought the yarn for Bonnie’s Holiday Cables Throw CAL from this time last year, but I never started that one because I was being “good” since I had too many works in progress. This year I am throwing caution to the wind.

Notes: This is a yarn eater. I used quite a bit more than I expected and that the pattern indicated. If I was to make it again I would go up a hook size (or two) to make it less stiff and use a softer yarn. Follow the video for the center section, not the written pattern which has uncorrected mistakes. Also, the pattern as written for the border doesn’t have you go around the whole perimeter first, so you end up with a row of sc and knurl protruding out. Next time I will do the whole first round of the edge before starting the woven stitch on one side.
I really enjoyed this pattern and I will likely make it again, though I’ll probably do straight basketweave in the center section next time and probably add more rows of woven stitch to make it longer.

The video was released and the CAL officially started yesterday. I started today with the first part of Week 1, the Front Ridge / Cable / Front Ridge section. I used the 6.0 mm hook for the chain and the 5.5 mm for the rows.

I finished the first basketweave section today so I’m ready for next Monday’s update. Note to self: count stitches to make sure I have 152 before continuing.

I finished the first diamonds section this morning but I still have to do a cables/knurl/cables section to finish off Week 2. The video for the middle, basketweave diamonds, section came out today. NOTE: follow the video for that section because the written pattern is wrong. (Odd they haven’t updated it.)

Week 2 is done, pictures added.

Week 3 is done -- the center basketweave diamonds. This was a very small section compared to last week. Now it’s just repeats of the previous sections until we get to the border.

Did the next cables/knurl/cables section today.

I have finished the body of the blanket! The fourth video came out this morning but the sections were just repeats of things we’ve already done, so I got a head start over the weekend.
I got the crazy idea on Thursday that this would make a better wedding gift for Ben & Erica than the blanket I already made them so I kicked it into overdrive. It’s Monday afternoon now. Can I get it done before my plane takes off for Texas on Thursday? :)

Throw is done and I’ve just thrown it in the washer on delicate. I’ll pin it out to dry on a bed.
