Stylecraft will run a CAL (crochet-a-long) on their Facebook group starting Thursday, February 10, 2022 in honor of the new Primavera colorway by Lucia of Lucia’s Fig Tree. I bought the Life DK kit back in 2018 when it went on sale at Wool Warehouse and I’ve been looking forward to making it. I should be good and finish my other blankets first, but what the heck!

Also, see Jane’s videos, for instance, how to create a neat ring.

I got this project all organized and did the very first hexagon. It came out exactly the right size.

This is my first time working with the Life DK and it tangles badly. (I think it is the wool content that makes it toothier.) From now on I will work from the outside of the skein.

Part 1 of 8 done. My only change from the pattern was to do ch 2 instead of ch 3 for the first “dc” of a round.

I’ve been working on this steadily and just added the four part 4 (Rosa) hexagons to the previous parts. Now everything is joined and there won’t be any more loose pieces until it’s complete. Next up is the Heart Rose pattern which is lovely.

Slowly making progress on this. I just added the four Heart Rose hexies, so I am finished with Part 5.

Part 6, Ring of Roses, is coming along - this is such a pretty design! I showed this to my family (Mom, brother, sisters) during one of our weekly Zoom calls and my sister Gina claimed it. smiley She’s an artist and a Frida Kahlo fan, and I am thrilled to be making it for someone, rather than just adding to my pile of finished blankets.

I’ve added two pictures from Gina’s Facebook - one of a portrait she did of Frida and one of her dressed up as Frida for a costume party.

The one advantage to getting Covid, more time to crochet. I started the Frida’s Bouquet (Part 7) hexie yesterday morning (Saturday), and just finished them just after lunch time, and just joined the six from the last part plus these five. Now just the edging to go! My sister’s birthday is November 3 and the edging is quite simple, so the timing is perfect.

October 1, 2022

I added the simple linen stitch border today. The blanket is quite lovely and will be even prettier when I block it. I have quite a few left-overs and I’ll have to think of something clever to do with them. Maybe the Frida’s Flowers project bag?

November 6, 2022

I blocked this yesterday and added the “Made with Love” button, so now it’s 100% done and ready to be gifted to my sister when I see her next weekend.
