Note to those just starting: even if you use Foundation Single Crochet for the first row, I would recommend going up a hook size or two, as Lucy suggests. It seems to be common to have the “rainbow effect” on this blanket. I’m hoping the border and some steam blocking will straighten out mine.
Also the Magic Knot Join works marvelously for this pattern and means you don’t have a gazillion ends to weave in.

Lucy’s pattern will be released on April 7. Rather than buy the yarn pack, I will use these left-overs that I already have.

Yay, new blanket! What a wonderful thing to wake up to this morning. I so adore Lucy’s Ta-dah posts! They’re filled with such excitement and gorgeous photos. It’s especially fun when it’s one we’ve been teased with for so long. The pattern looks perfect, and, while I very much enjoyed the Moorland blanket, this one will be considerably more relaxing, I’m sure.
Mine will be more eclectic than Lucy’s but that is what happens when you’re busting stash. I will roughly follow the suggested colors, substituting something when I don’t have the same as she used. (I have 7 full skeins of colors she’s using, several more skeins that are not too bad a match, and a few partial balls with some similar colors.)
These are mostly left-overs from other Lucy blanket packs, but I did make a donation for the pattern since I didn’t buy the pack from Wool Warehouse. Must support our favorite designers’ work!
Lucy just answered my question on her Facebook page that each stripe uses roughly 14g, which means my small balls will be big enough, so I’m off to the races! First to do 181 foundation sc…
Finished the first two stripes. Easy and fun!

Lucy’s first 15 stripes are her 15 colors without repeats. The ones in bold are the colors we have in common and the others have the substitutions I plan to make.
- Grape
- Pale Rose
- Vintage Peach -> Have Duck Egg, Storm Blue, Sage (small balls), used Duck Egg
- Mushroom -> Silver
- Camel
- Meadow
- Denim
- Raspberry
- Mocha -> small ball of Mocha (28g), Lime, used Mocha
- Violet
- Parma Violet -> Wisteria, Plum, Silver, used Wisteria, but swapped with next stripe
- Duck Egg -> Cloud Blue
- Cypress -> Petrol
- Pistachio -> small ball of Pistachio, Meadow, used Pistachio
- Storm Blue -> Aster
I’ve finished colors 1-4. The Attic24 CAL group is going to do 20 stripes per week, but that’s a bit fast for me since I have other things on the go as well. I’ve decided my personal goal will be to do two colors (4 rows) per day. There are 88 colors, so that would mean 44 days and a few days for the border, so seven weeks. Since I started this on April 7, my goal is to finish the stripes by May 21 (K’s birthday, not because I plan to give her this blanket, but just because it’s easy to remember and it happens to be 44 days since I started.)

Well, my plan was good but now I’m almost a week behind and so busy with work I’m likely to get behinder! I’ll keep it as my goal to finish by the end of May, but we’ll see.
Finished 2 more stripes tonight so now I am half way done with the body of the blanket.

I’ve decided that I’m not going to push myself to finish this in May. Frankly, it is a little boring if done for too long and catching up now would require me to not work on my other WIPs at all at this point and that would be sad. Since the whole point is to have fun, I’m going to go back to just round-robin through my current projects and let this one be done when it is done. So, this morning I put the first two border rounds on my #CrochetGirlGang CAL blanket and tonight I’ll probably work on this Hydrangea blanket, and tomorrow we’ll just see what mood I’m in!

I finished the fifth part today and I’m ready for the next 14 stripes. Note that I stopped trying to follow Lucy’s color sequence even a little. Now I’m just winging it.

Well, it’s almost the last day of June and I’ve still got 18 or so stripes to do on this blanket, plus the border. Me thinks it’s not going to be done in June.

I added a final stripe of Cloud Blue (#85) and have run out of yarn, so I’m calling this done even though Lucy went to 88 stripes. I’ve added the two-row linen stitch border in Buttermilk and Pale Rose and I like the way it finishes it off simply and neatly.
Overall I’m very pleased with this blanket. It’s squishy and cuddly, though it’ll probably be a long time before I do another one with such a simple pattern again.
