Starting a baby blanket for a friend who needs one to give as a gift. We chose the colors together from my stash. I plan to use a higher proportion of the medium-light blues to give it an overall blue vibe.
132 sts per row, chosen to be a nice multiple of 12. Hopefully that will accommodate many of the stitch multiples since this is mixed stitches. The pattern is written more as suggestions than instructions, so probably not beginner friendly but very doable if you’re an intermediate crocheter. I’d guess the only stitch I haven’t done from looking through the pattern is the Catherine’s Wheel which has a reputation of being tricky but I’m sure is just a matter of paying attention. (If you’re looking for a similar pattern that is beginner friendly, I’d check out the Spice of Life Blanket by Cherry Heart.)

Good advice here that I wish I had read before I started:

I finished the top of the blanket the other day and brought it to lunch with my friend Julie (not the friend the blanket is for) for advice on the border color. We decided on the two mid-tone blues. Going to start the border today after I block it!

The border ended up incorporating the four main blue colors, using up almost the entire skeins of all but the darkest. I used about 1/2 skein each of the other five colors.
I’m really happy with how this came out! Going down to the smaller hook than usual kept the fabric dense enough for a baby blanket and the steam blocking really softened it up and straightened it out to a account for the slightly uneven edges due to the stitch variety. And finally, the double border gives it nice structure. (Probably just as much work doing the slip stitch round and working into the back of the slip stitch as weaving in the ends would have been, but I think this way looks nicer.)
This blanket was actually in my Year of Projects 2019-2020 list to make! I haven’t been paying much attention to my list lately so it’s kind of fun to actually finish one from it.
