Another blanket project just for fun! These colors don’t match my house but they make me happy. Mapping to Polly’s color letters:
A - Wisteria
B - Violet
C - Emperor
D - Cloud Blue
E - Aster
F - Royal
G - Silver
H - White
J - Midnight
K - Black Midnight ❋
❋ Since I’ve switched my join and border color (K) from Black to Midnight, I’ll need to change the color of the last round of any square that uses J since my J and K are the same.
I placed a Wool Warehouse order last night, July 27, 2018 for the colors I don’t have enough of in stash (Wisteria, Midnight, Black, Silver) and I’ll work on this as the mood strikes me when it arrives.
My plan is to do the staggered layout like koernerklaus’ Anna’s Shiny Afghan. Her color scheme is also very similar to mine so I know the end result will be beautiful!
There is no pattern page in the Ravelry database for the entire blanket, just the individual squares. In the past when this was the case (like with Polly’s Stardust Melodies) I just did one project page for the blanket and used the “Incorporates” feature under patterns to list the squares. But I like to go to a pattern and see all the different versions/color choices in the Projects tab there, so this time I think I’ll also make a project page for each square. Plus, each of Polly’s squares really is a little project unto itself!

I enjoyed making my second Inara square, this time in the blues and purples. I love Polly Plum patterns!
I was just looking at the next squares I’m going to do and I noticed the River square has a 6” variation. I wonder how the blanket would look with a combination of Cap’n Tightpants and the 6” River?

I just engaged in a little retail therapy at Wool Warehouse and ordered a few extra skeins of the colors I didn’t have more than one of. This is on my list to pick back up soon now that I’ve got my Sophie’s Universe done, which was a WIP from this same era!
July 4, 2024
I have picked this up as my primary WIP since I am on a roll getting my pre-2024 WIPs completed before starting any new crochet projects. This is pre-2024 WIP #10 of 11. Six years since I started this!
Today is Thursday and the start of the 4-day 4th of July weekend. We’re heading to Westerly, RI for Friday and Saturday night to enjoy some beach time (me, J, and B), but this won’t be a good travel project.
I finished the River square today and so far it is my favorite! Polly made a bit of a fuss about how difficult the square is in her pattern description, but it’s really not bad at all -- intermediate at most.
July 12, 2024
A little over a week later and I’ve finished four more squares for a total of 7 of the 9. I’ve had some extra crochet time this week because of the July 4th long weekend plus a few days off work due to surgery. It’s Friday night and I’m sure I can get the remaining 2 squares done this weekend.
I pinned them all out on blocking mats, but discovered my garment steamer no longer works. I’ve had to order another one which should be here tomorrow.
July 13, 2024
I finished the final 2 10” squares today and steam blocked them all with my new steamer. (I hope it lasts longer than the last one did.) I’m looking forward to taking nice pictures of them all tomorrow.
Next up are the 12 5” squares. We’ll see how many of those I can get done tomorrow, Sunday. I did get out for a walk today around the neighborhood, but I can’t do much because of the surgery, so crochet is just the right medicine for recovery.
July 15, 2024
My 5” squares are done and blocked. Next up will be the join with the Midnight yarn.
The throw is going to be quite small, especially since I’m using DK weight yarn (vs. the designer’s Aran). I’m not sure why I thought I’d need so much yarn for this! I’m going to have enough to make the blanket 3 times over with even more of most colors.

All joined! Border time.
Need to have 7x + 1 for border.
After sc round for join, 42 sts per side large, 21 per small.
Short sides: XxxX = 42 + 21 + 21 + 42 = 126 / 7 = 18 repeats
Long sides: XxXxX = 42 + 21 + 42 + 21 + 42 = 168 = 24 repeats
Because we’re missing the +1, then skip 2 rather than 3, for before the last V of the side.
Border:
Round 1
Round 2
Round 3 (pattern round 6)
Round 4 (pattern round 5)
Round 5 (pattern round 6)
Round 6 (pattern round 5)
Round 7 Scalloped edge

And she’s done! Only six years later. I will block the border tomorrow.
It is just as pretty as I thought it would be.
I’m not sure what held me back from getting on with this one. The squares were fun and the colors are very me. I’ve only spent 16 days finishing this off, so including the planning time and the time to make the squares I did back in 2018, that’s about three weeks. Silly. I spent more (wasted) time shopping for yarn for this than actually crocheting it.
