This will be my sixth Shin-yu.

After getting version 1 about a quarter of the way into part 3, I decided it was too small and wouldn’t use enough of my yarn cake. Much to my husband’s consternation, I pulled it all out yesterday and started again with a chain of 160 instead of 120. At the beginning of part 3 this time, I still have 63g of yarn left!
Looking more closely at my Library, I finally noticed there’s a separate document for sizing. Ugh! From that I learned that the proportions are:
• Part 1: 1/3 (33%) of total weight
• Part 2: 1/4 (25%) of total weight
• Part 3: 5/12 (42%) of total weight
So, at the end of part 1, I should have 66 g of my 100 g cake left, then 42 g at the end of part 2.
Hopefully, third time is a charm since I am going to pull it out again (not while my husband is watching) and weigh the 160 chain version when it gets back to part 2 and part 1 and divide by 4 to see how many grams each 40 stitch repeat takes. That should allow me to calculate how big a starting chain I need to use up most of my yarn and to hopefully make it long enough to wrap twice.
Still, I really love this yarn, and this pattern, so it’s worth it to me to get it right.

Yesterday, I ripped out version 2 and started version 3 with 240 stitches. I decided it needed to be that long to wrap around twice comfortably. This time, the risk is I’ll run out of yarn, and if so I’ll just wing it.

At the end of part 1, 37 g used, 68 g left.
At the end of part 2, 61 g used, 46 g left.

Three rows left on version #3, but it’s time for bed!

Finished today with 3g to spare. It came out just perfect this time and I’ll definitely be making another with this gorgeous yarn.
Gifted to my older daughter -- it’s just her colors!
