I bought an Axbridge Afghan kit on impulse because it was on sale when I was buying some other yarn at LionBrand.com.
On closer look at the Axbridge Afghan pattern I think it’s rather ugly -- it was the idea of a sampler that appealed to me. I think the Spice of Life pattern is much prettier so I have swapped out some of the colors from the kit with blues and grays from my stash and switched patterns. I’m looking forward to starting this one!
Perhaps I will use this random stripe generator?

I got started on this today! So far it is so simple and relaxing. Just what I wanted after the last complicated project. I started with foundation double crochet.
The colors are also very calm and soothing:
Vanna’s Choice: Silver Grey, Silver Blue, Beige, Mustard, Colonial Blue, Dusty Blue, Peacock, Periwinkle, Kelly Green, Fern
Red Heart Soft: White
I have two skeins each of all except the Peacock, Periwinkle, and White which will just be accent colors.

The chain three turning chain was making me sad, so I found this tutorial on a chainless starting double crochet that I will use going forward.

Part 4 done. This means I am half done with the rows.

Today I finished the repeat of part 3.

Finished the first half of the part 4 repeat (through the tulips). 28 more rows to go total for the blanket. I’m happy with the size this will end up being. Thinking ahead to the border, the Dusty Blue might be a good choice, or perhaps the Kelly Green.
I didn’t pay attention and not only did I not go up a hook size for the first section of shells, I also started with a finer weight yarn with the first stacked shells so my edges are definitely wonky. Don’t do as I did -- go up a hook size, or two, for these rows! I did that on the repeat and it’s much better.

I finished the repeat of part 4 tonight. Now there’s just the granny rows and then five double rows of dc until the border. For the last rows, I’m going to do the reverse of the colors that started the blanket.

All of the stripes are done! Now I have to decide if I’m going to go with the border as written or use Lucy of Attic24’s Spot On Edging which I also love.

Finished! I decided to go with the Spot On Edging in the end. I might have added the final scallops from the pattern original border except I ran out of the Silver Blue yarn and didn’t want to introduce a third color to the border. Also, I think it looks nice and neat this way and I’m tired of scallops since my last two blanket borders had scallops. This was a very fun project and it took me only about three weeks total!
